New and Upcoming Artists to add to your 2023 Playlists

I’m all too guilty of listening to the same artists over and over, rarely branching out to find something new. One look at my Spotify shows a love for the likes of Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters and, still to this day, the occasional One Direction.

I’m all too guilty of listening to the same artists over and over, rarely branching out to find something new. One look at my Spotify shows a love for the likes of Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters and, still to this day, the occasional One Direction.

I could listen to the same artists for the rest of my life, but every now and then I like to check out new artists within similar genres. Plus, it’s always great to support new artists. I’ve put together a list of new and upcoming artists we should all check out this month… enjoy!

India Thieriot

India Thieriot is an up and coming NYC based artist who derives inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves. Theiriot’s music is a tasteful blend of pop, indie, and R&B, leaning in to TikTok-core. For those who used to love songs like Big Girls Don’t Cry, Put Your Records On and Pocketful of Sunshine, India’s music will be right up your street.

  • have a day 🙂
  • Not Afraid

Low Girl

Low Girl is a British band consisting of (left to right) Tom, Brad, Sarah and Toby. Anyone big into social media will have most likely heard their song ‘So Cool’ already. Without sounding too cringe, their music feels like a summers day and takes me back to the kind of music we all enjoyed during lockdown. Their new EP ‘Uh-Oh’ is out now and is full of songs to give you good vibes.

Where to start?

  • So Cool
  • Uh-Oh
  • Lovable Maybe

DYLYN

DYLYN is a Canadian singer-songwriter, recommended for fans of the likes of Paramore and Hey Violet. I think DYLYN may be my favourite artist I have discovered this year so far, with elements of everything I like about artists I already enjoy. She describes her style as ‘if Lana Del Rey and Black Sabbath had a baby’. With moments of anger, heartbreak, frustration and triumph, DYLYN is the perfect artist for me. For us adults with an inner angsty child, the vibes of her work are everything 13 year old me would have loved.

Where to start?

  • Hellhound
  • Hurt
  • Skin and Bone

FLO

FLO, a trio girl group, are no strangers to success in the industry thus far. They were recently announced as winners of the BRITS Rising Star Award, being the first group to have ever won. Jorja, Stella and Renee are adding a fresh new vibe to music groups that I think we’ve been waiting for for a while. There is a definite Y2K vibe, reminding me of music from the late 00s. I’m sure big things are coming for these girls this year, would highly recommend listening!

Where to start?

  • Cardboard Box
  • Losing You
  • Not My Job

MIXIE

Image: instagram @lilmixie

MIXIE is an artist from New York, with music that feels progressive, bold and openly queer. After stumbling upon MIXIE’s music on TikTok last year, I was immediately hooked by her hit ‘run away’. Her music feels perfect for that little boost you need in the morning, or on your way to work. It’s angsty, it’s fun and it’s refreshing. To witness her quirkiness, check out her music video for her song ‘boomerang’ here.

Where to start?

  • run away
  • fuccboi
  • bloodshot

I had a great time listening to all these new artists. If I’ve learned anything, there’s no harm in branching out and trying something new. Feel free to comment any new artists you think we should also check out, I’d love to listen!

with love,
