Even though 2023 is in full swing, I wanted to talk about my favourite podcasts I listened to in 2022. I am constantly engaging in media, whether it be Youtube, music or my favourite TV shows. I only started to listen to podcasts in this last year as it’s a great way to engage in content whilst on the move. Today I’m sharing podcasts, coincidentally by my favourite YouTubers, with you! From true crime to lifestyle, hopefully you’ll enjoy one of these three!
Behind You
Now this may not be too everyone’s taste, but I’m a stickler for a bit of true crime. I’m always conscious of finding content that sticks to facts and is cautious of the sensitivities of the subject matter, making Hailey Elizabeth the perfect creator. I stumbled upon her content mid 2022, originally just engaging in her video content on Youtube. Hailey covers high profile cases, as well as focusing on smaller cases that don’t gain as much media traction. Not only does she talk about true crime cases, but also discusses topics within the realms of conspiracy theories, Mandela effects and the downfalls of problematic influencers.
Episodes I’d recommend;
- High School Sweethearts Turned Murderers: Case of Adrienne Jones
- Man Killed by Wife’s Secret Lesbian Lover
- Beauty Queen Killer: Darlene Gentry
Hailey uploads a podcast every Tuesday, with the video version that comes to her Youtube channel every Wednesday.
Very Really Good
For hilarious comments and critiques on everything pop culture, Very Really Good is the perfect podcast for our generation. Hosted by one of my favourite YouTubers Kurtis Conner, VRG never fails to make me laugh. I’ve been a fan of Kurtis Conner’s videos for years and could not recommend his content enough. His podcast has been running for four years and ranges from criticising out of touch influencers to commenting on cringe-worthy pop culture moments. The podcasts’ cover art sums up the absolutely feral and comedic qualities of Kurtis’ content. For someone with a strong sense of humour, this is the podcast for you!
Episodes I’d recommend;
- Ranking YouTuber Apologies w/ D’Angelo Wallace
- Guess That White Boy Tweet
- Cursed Canadian TV W/ Mia Maples
Anything Goes
From existential life questions to vulnerability about being an influencer, Anything Goes is a podcast for those looking to feel like they’re talking to a best friend. I have loved Emma Chamberlain’s content for what feels like forever and her podcast can quite simply be described as comforting. There is a slow-paced flow to her conversations that puts me at ease on a stressful day. Emma discusses many things on her podcast, including personal childhood stories, her views on complicated life questions and criticisms of the influencer world. Personally, I find it refreshing to listen to a creator I love so much be so vulnerable about her struggles and her drive to talk openly about whatever is on her mind. In a way, I think her podcast is a reminder of the cliche but true saying ‘it’s okay not to be okay’. For a therapeutic take on influencer podcasts, I’d highly encourage anyone to check Anything Goes Out.
Episodes I’d recommend;
That’s everything from me! In 2023, I’d love to listen to more podcasts and branch out from what I already know. If you have any recommendations for me or anyone else, comment them below!
