Growing up in the 2000s, being openly bisexual was still a relatively new thing, especially for celebrities. Despite wishing I had more people to look up to at the time, there is so much joy in seeing this representation now for younger people. Bisexuality still comes with a lot of stereotypes and ‘bi-erasure’ is still an all too prevalent thing. Having celebrities come out as bisexual and being proud of it goes a long way for bi representation, so let’s get into it.
1. Frank Ocean
Dubbed pioneer of the alternative R&B genre, Frank Ocean has been making music for almost 15 years. In 2012, Frank came out as bisexual in a heartfelt and personal Tumblr note. He said ‘I sat there and told my friends how I felt. I wept as the worlds left my mouth‘. He then went on to say ‘I feel like a free man’.
Frank was one of the first R&B stars to publicly come out, paving the way for others in the future.
2. Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish, 22, took the world by storm at just 13 years old when she released Ocean Eyes. Since then, she’s only become more successful and is now one of the biggest artists of our generation. In 2023, Billie confirmed that she was part of the LGBTQ+ community after an awkward interview with Variety. Billie opened up about also liking women, but hasn’t put a label on her sexuality.
Since coming out, Eilish had released some songs referencing her sexuality, such as Lunch and her recent collab Guess with Charli XCX.
3. Björk
Björk is one of the biggest artists to come out of Iceland. She released her first song in 1977 at just 12 years old and is still making music today. Björk publicly came out as bisexual in 2004 in an interview with Diva. Speaking on her sexuality, she said;
I think everyone’s bisexual to some degree or another ; it’s just a question of whether or not you choose to recognise it and embrace it. Personally, I think choosing between men and women is like choosing between cake and ice cream. You’d be daft not to try both when there are so many different flavours.

4. Maren Morris
Country star Maren Morris has been on the scene since 2015, with hits such as The Bones, The Middle, and Girl. Maren opened up about her sexuality during Pride Month in 2024, revealing that she’s bisexual. In an Instagram post, she said ‘happy to be the B in LGTBQ+’.

5. Alan Cumming
Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor, known for titles such as The Traitors, Spy Kids, and Cabaret. Alan says he knew that he was bisexual even before marrying his now ex-wife in 1985. They soon divorced after marrying for the wrong reasons. Alan is now happily married to artist Grant Shaffer.
Speaking on his sexuality and finding himself, Alan said ‘You will find your tribe, no matter what that is. I feel now, very supported and beloved. I really like my life now.’
6. Evan Rachel Wood
Evan Rachel Wood has had a fruitful career at still such a young age. Evan has starred in titles such as Thirteen, Westworld and Practical Magic. In 2011, Evan came out as bisexual in an interview with Esquire. Evan continues to speak publicly about her sexuality. She highlights the struggles she faced as a teen, and some she still faces today.
In an interview with Self, Evan said ‘being bisexual in high school meant feeling like there was something wrong with her or being minimized into a stereotype, never able to fully express her feelings.’
7. Billie Joe Armstrong
Green Day lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong has made a huge influence on rock music since the band formed in 1987. Billie first came out as bisexual in 1995 in an interview with The Advocate. This was an incredible step forward in a very heteronormative music genre. Billie still discusses being bisexual to this day.

8. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is one of the biggest artists in the world, debuting her first song Just Dance in 2008. Since, she has ventured into acting, starring in A Star is Born, American Horror Story, Joker: Folie à Deux, and more. She first opened up about being in 2010, and has since become a huge voice for the queer community.
Her fanbase is largely made up of LGBTQ+ people. In addition, songs such as Born This Way and Rain on Me have become anthems for the queer community.
9. Kit Connor
Heartstopper star Kit Connor has been acting since he was a child, also starring in the likes of Rocketman and Ready Player One. Since playing Nick in Heartstopper, fans of the show crossed a boundary and pressured him to come out. Ultimately, Kit came out as bisexual on X.
This is a lesson is not forcing anyone, particularly a celebrity, to come out. It should be done in their own time, when they feel ready.
10. Megan Fox
Megan Fox made her acting debut in 2001. She’s starred in some huge titles, such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Jennifer’s Body, and Above the Shadows. In a 2010 interview with Esquire, Megan shared that she identifies as bisexual, saying there’s no question in her mind about her sexuality.
In more recent years, Megan spoke to InStyle and said ‘one of my favorite things that I get called is being a bi icon, and that is one of the things I am the most proud of!‘
11. Aubrey Plaza
American actress and producer Aubrey Plaza is well known for titles such as Parks and Recreation, The White Lotus, and Emily The Criminal. In 2016, Aubrey opened up to The Advocate about her sexuality, revealing she identifies as bisexual.

Later this month, September 27, My Old Ass is set to release. It’s a queer coming-of-age film starring Aubrey Plaza, Maisie Stella, and Maddie Ziegler.
12. Auli’i Cravalho
Moana and Mean Girls (2024) star Auli’i Cravalho has been killing it as an actress over the last few years. In her most recent project, she’ll be starring in Cabaret on Broadway alongside Adam Lambert. In classic Gen Z fashion, Auli’l kept it casual and came out on TikTok by lip syncing to a song about bisexuality.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Auli’l reflected on her TikTok coming out story. She says ‘the funniest part to me was that I had girlfriends in high school. I think girls are great, but I wouldn’t think that it was necessary to come out.’
13. Shannon Purser
Shannon has been acting for just shy of a decade. She’s starred in well known titles such as Stranger Things, Riverdale, and Sierra Burgess is a Loser. In 2017, in a now-deleted tweet, Shannon publicly came out as bisexual saying ‘now is as good a time as any to get personal‘.
Speaking to People in 2018, Shannon said she hopes that her coming out has helped kids feel less alone. She said ‘just always think about what would I have needed as a kid, what would have meant a lot to me?’
14. Halsey
Halsey, singer-songwriter and actress, has had some huge hits such as Without Me, Eastside, and Colors. She also recently starred in MaXXXine, the third instalment in Ti West’s X series. They are openly bi and have a lot of songs in their discography about sexuality.
Halsey opened up in a 2018 GLAAD video about the difficulties she faced when coming out as bisexual.
I’m a young, bisexual woman, and I’ve spent a large part of my life trying to validate myself — to my friends, to my family, to myself — trying to prove that who I love and how I feel is not a phase; it’s not part of some confusion that’s going to change or could be manipulated.

15. Tyler Blackburn
Tyler Blackburn rose to fame after starring as Caleb in Pretty Little Liars and Ravenswood. In a 2019 interview with The Advocate, Tyler publicly came out as bisexual saying ‘I’ve identified as bisexual since I was a teenager‘.
Even when dating men, Tyler spoke about the gray zone and bi erasure.
At times, bisexuality feels like a big gray zone.I’ve had to check myself and say, ‘I know how I felt when I was in love with women and when I slept with women. That was true and real. Don’t discredit that, because you’re feeding into what other people think about bisexuality.

16. Shailene Woodley
Shailene made her film debut in 2011, and has since starred in the likes of the Divergent series, The Fault in Our Stars, and Adrift. In a 2014 in interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shailene casually dropped that she was bisexual.

Although Shailene likes to keep her private life private, she stands by not drawing the line when it comes to gender and love.
17. Lili Reinhart
Riverdale was Lili’s breakthrough role, catapulting her into fame in 2017. She’s also starred in titles such as Look Both Ways, Chemical Hearts, and Hustlers. In 2020, Lili Reinhart came out as bisexual via an Instagram story. She said ‘Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I am a proud bisexual woman‘.
Since then, she continues to stand up for bisexual rights on social media.
18. Kali Uchis
Kali is an R&B, neo soul, and Latin singer and songwriter, with hits such as telepatía, Melting, and After the Storm. Just last year, in April 2023, Kali confirmed that she was bisexual. She spoke in an Instagram Live, after fans accused her of queer baiting, and revealed that her first love was a woman.
Kali continues to be open about her sexuality, including references in lyrics and music videos. She’s an icon within the LGBTQ+ community, with a lot of queer fans.
19. Stephanie Beatriz
Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz has been acting for over a decade, starring in other popular titles such as In The Heights and Encanto. Initially, Stephanie hid her sexuality as she was worried it would effect her career. However, she ended up coming out in 2016.
Speaking to Page Six, Stephanie spoke proudly about her sexuality.

20. Bai Ling
Bai Ling, actress and musician, is well known for titles such as Dumplings, The Crow, and Red Corner. The actress has been open about her bisexuality for a very long time, first coming out openly in 2008. Speaking to GLAAD, she spoke about discovering with bi actually meant.
Are you bi?’ I said, ‘Yes, I am Bai.’ Do you like men? ‘Of course!’ Do you like women? ‘Why yes!’ And later I found out what that means and I said, ‘Sure, I am bi!'”
