Creating a positive and healthy daily routine can seem overwhelming and daunting when you don’t know where to start. Let’s break it down into small steps! Working on good habits will help you feel more fulfilled and positive in your daily life – so let’s get started!

1. Drink More Water

We’ve all heard it a million times – drink water! It may seem like a drag but the health benefits of it are often overlooked. Anywhere between 2-3 litres is the perfect amount. This graphic by Hydrate Direct sums up the benefits;

2. A Daily Clean

It’s so easy to be overwhelmed by a messy home. Often we may find ourselves leaving a clean up until our homes are at our worst. Keeping a tidy space can benefit your productivity, lower stress levels, gives you a sense of control and can help you feel more at peace at home. Start implanting a 10-15 minute clean before you wind down for bed everyday. Here are some ways to help motivate you;

  • Listen to music – see how much you can get done in one song
  • Make a mini to do list – checking off tasks motivates you to keep going
  • Take it one step at a time – even if you only do the dishes, that’s okay!

3. Spend Time Outdoors

Spending time outdoors influences both your mental and physical wellbeing. Whether you’re going on a scenic walk, relaxing in the garden or even just walking to work, there are so many benefits. You may notice;

  • An improved mood
  • Less stress and anger
  • Feeling more proactive
  • Coming home feeling refreshed
  • You may meet new people!
  • You may start connecting with communities
  • Reducing loneliness

This is one of the habits that may feel more difficult to put in place. A lot of us are homebodies or have mental health issues that really set us back from spending time outdoors. Don’t put pressure on yourself with this one – even if you just sit at the window for a bit and watch the world, that’s fine too!

4. Social Media Break

We can’t stress this enough – humans were never meant to know everything that’s going on in the world at all times. Social media is great in many ways, but in rations. Often, when we hear the phrase ‘social media break’ we may think it means days, weeks or even months. Instead, try an hour a day! Whether it’s when you’re getting ready for work, eating dinner or winding down before bed – give your brain a break! It may feel hard to detach straight away, but after a while you’ll find your mood is much better, stress has minimised and you may even sleep better!

5. Do Something You Enjoy

Arguably the most important habit of all, make time for the things that you enjoy. No matter what hobby you have, set aside time everyday to work on it! Whether you like art, exercise, music, or even just binge watching your favourite TV shows – let yourself have time to enjoy those things! Make your happiness one of your key habits.

Try out some of these habits to slowly improve your daily life. Remember – don’t put pressure on yourself, everything takes time 🙂
