There are so many small businesses out there – both online and on your high street! From coffee shops to online sellers, there’s plenty to support. Over the last few years, I have been more conscious about where I buy from – focusing on supporting small businesses. With the cost of living crisis, this may be hard for some of us to do. So today, I’m here to share 5 ways you can support small businesses for FREE!

1. Social Media – Follow, Like, Comment, Share, Save!

Small businesses are often reliant on social media to get the word out. By doing our bit to increase their likes, follows, comments, etc., they will be able to reach more people! Did a local cafe share a picture of coffee? Add it to your story, leave a comment, etc. Let them know you’re there. Something that takes you a few seconds makes a huge difference to them.

2. Spread The Word!

Tell your family and friends about them! Word of mouth has so much value. You never know, you could be recommending them their new favourite business!

3. Write a Positive Review

If you’ve shopped with them before, leave a review! Did you enjoy your local coffee shop? Let Google know! Were you obsessed with that piece of art you bought off Etsy? Leave them a review! It only takes a few minutes of your time, but it makes such a difference to them! I always read reviews before I purchase from places, I’m sure many of you do too! Positive reviews leave potential future customers with a great impression of what the small business is like.

4. Interact With Small Businesses

If they have a physical store, go and visit them! Say hi, ask them how they are – build a relationship with them! If it’s an online business, send them encouraging messages and tell them you love what they’re doing.

5. Visit Their Website

Most small businesses will have a website, particularly online ones. Traffic is a huge way to boost their website higher up in Google searches. Take some time out of your day to visit their website and explore what’s on there!

Do you have a favourite small business? A local coffee shop? Or someone who makes art to sell online? Give these tips a go – your support goes a long way! Even for me, seeing people read and enjoy my blog posts makes my day and it’s completely free! Whatever you can do to help, small businesses will appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.
