Today, July 14th, is International Non-Binary People’s Day. It’s all about celebrating and raising awareness for non-binary people, as well as highlighting issues they face. To celebrate non-binary people, we’re sharing 16 celebrities who identify as non-binary. These celebrities are becoming the forefront of gender expression and are a great inspiration.
Emma D’Arcy
They/them
Emma D’Arcy is an actor known for their role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of Dragons. When their career got started, Emma said they felt they had to downplay their identity as non-binary to get roles. They said HBO gave them the opportunity to bring their identity into work.
Bella Ramsey

Games of Thrones and The Last of Us breakout star Bella Ramsey opened up about their gender and identity back in January 2023. While Bella is open about their identity, they say they’d much prefer if we focused on their career as an actor.
Kehlani
She/they
Kehlani is an American singer, known for hits like After Hours, Nights Like This, and Good Life. In 2019, Kehlani told Diva magazine that they are on the non-binary scale and prefer using she/they pronouns. Kehlani has become a huge inspiration for the queer community, inspiring others through her gender expression and lesbian identity.
Halsey
She/they
Halsey is a singer-songwriter, renowned for dominating the Tumblr era back in 2015. They are known for huge hits like Without Me, Eastside, and Closer. In 2021, she added ‘she/they’ to their Instagram bio, stating they are comfortable with the inclusion of ‘they’ with ‘she’.
Emma Corrin
They/them
Emma Corrin is an English actor, most notably for their role as Princess Diana in hit TV show The Crown and the lead role in Lady Chatterley’s Lover. In 2021, Emma headed to Instagram and came out publicly as queer. Just a few months later, they also came out as non-binary.
Janelle Monáe
She/they
Janelle Monáe is a singer-songwriter and actress, with an impressive amount of Grammy’s under their name. Her biggest hits include Make Me Feel, I Like That, and Tightrope. In 2022, Janelle opened up about their pronouns, stating they prefer ‘they/them’ and ‘she/her’ pronouns.
Jonathan Van Ness
They/he/she
Jonathan Van Ness is an American hairstylist and television personality, who most would recognise from Netflix’s Queer Eye. In 2019, Jonathan came out as non-binary. They said ‘some days I feel like a man, but then other days I feel like a woman‘, now using they/he/she as pronouns.
Sara Ramirez
They/them
Sara Ramirez, who is well known for playing Callie Torres in Grey’s Anatomy, came out as non-binary in 2020. In an Instagram post, they stated ‘In me is the capacity to be: Girlish boy, Boyish girl, Boyish boy, Girlish girl, All, Neither, #nonbinary, ♥️💛🤍💜🖤♥️’. They initially used shey/they pronouns, before stating they prefer they/them in 2021.
Brigette Lundy-Paine
They/them
Atypical star Brigette Lundy-Paine came out in 2019 as non-binary. They said they’ve always felt ‘a lil bit boy, lil bit girl, lil bit neither’. Brigette said using they/them pronouns feels right to them and, although they were scared to come out, they felt they owed it to themselves and everyone else struggling with gender.
Olly Alexander
He/him
Olly Alexander is the lead singer of Years & Years and the UK’s Eurovision star. He has always been an advocate for queer rights, including starring in hit LGBTQ+ show It’s A Sin. Olly has a fluid approach to gender, saying ‘I feel very non-binary, and you know, I identify as gay and queer and non-binary‘ and uses he/him pronouns.
Miley Cyrus
She/her
Miley Cyrus, singer-songwriter and actress, is a pop icon who developed her artistry from Disney Channel star to a successful career as an adult. In 2015, she said she hates the labels ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ and that ‘I’m just equal. I’m just even. It has nothing to do with any parts of me… It’s literally just how I feel’. At present, she feels most comfortable with she/her pronouns.
E.R. Fightmaster

E.R. Fightmaster is an American actor, director, and writer, who you may recognise from Grey’s Anatomy and Shrill. They were the first non-binary character on Grey’s Anatomy, ambitious about portraying a character than connected well with the show’s audience.
Sasha Velour
She/they
Alexander “Sasha” Hedges Steinberg, known professionally as drag artist Sasha Velour rose to fame after winning season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. They have stated that they are genderfluid and, when not in drag, use she/they pronouns. When in drag, Sasha velour is referred to with she/her pronouns.
Lachlan Watson
They/them
Lachlan Watson is an up and coming actor, most known for their role as Theo Putnam in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. They spent their teenage years bouncing between different identities and gender expressions, before feeling comfortable with non-binary.
