Looking for a little bit of comforting nostalgia? Let’s be honest, the 2000s were iconic for films – especially chick flicks. Here’s our list of 10 iconic chick flicks from the 2000s for all your throwback, old-school needs. From the unforgettable Legally Blonde to the incredibly British Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, let’s get into it.

13 Going on 30

13 Going n 30, Columbia Pictures, 2004

First up on our list, we have 13 Going on 30. Starring Jennifer Garner, this movie is an incredible commentary on the desperation to grow up – constantly looking towards the future. It encourages us to focus on the now and that we shouldn’t rush growing up.

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Warner Bros. Pictures, 2005

This movie is full of a star-studded cast and tells a beautiful tale of the bond between friends, no matter how far apart you find yourselves. A single pair of pants that seems to fit them all is a symbol of their tight bond.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, Paramount Pictures, 2008

This may be a lesser-known movie to some, but Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is an incredibly British representation of what it’s really like to be a teenager. Whenever we think about this movie, all we can hear is ‘that fire you ignited, good, bad and undecided…‘ if you know, you know!

Aquamarine

Aquamarine, 20th Century Studios, 2006

Starring Emma Roberts, Sara Paxton, and the iconic JoJo, Aquamarine is the perfect chick flick. It’s definitely more catered to children than the other movies on this list, but we love it nonetheless. Two friends discover a mermaid stranded on land and befriend her – the mermaid is desperate to find romantic love but realises along the way that friendship is the bigger love.

Bring It On

Bring It On, Universal Pictures, 2000

Bring It On is still remembered to this day for its legendary songs and dance routines. Two rival cheerleading squads battle it out to win the championships and it all falls apart after a cheer captain steals the opposing team’s routine. And 5 sequels? That’s enough to know how iconic it is!

Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 2001

Elle Woods is truly one of the most iconic characters to come out of 2000s chick flicks. Legally Blonde tells the story of a determined young girl who wants to prove her ex-boyfriend (and the world) wrong about her ability to pass law school. Everything about this movie is so, so perfect. A must-watch in your binge sessions!

Freaky Friday

Freaky Friday, Walt Disney Pictures, 2003

Did anyone else totally place their entire personality as a child/teenager on Lindsay Lohan’s character? Freaky Friday is easily one of the best movies to come out of Disney. Jamie Lee Curtis and Linsday Lohan play a mother and daughter duo who, by some curse, swap bodies. As they learn more about each other’s lives, they begin to understand each other more. Also, who could forget the iconic band ‘Pink Slip’?

The Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries, The Walt Disney Company, 2001

‘Me, a princess? Shut up!’ Anne Hathaway’s big-screen debut in this chick flick as the all-too-relatable Mia Thermopolis is so 2000s and we love it. After finding out she is the heir to the fictional country of Genovia, Mia embarks on a journey to become the perfect queen.

A Cinderella Story

A Cinderella Story, Warner Bros. Pictures, 2004

This is a core childhood movie for us. A Cinderella Story is a modern retelling of the fairytale Cinderella, where orphan Sam Montgomery starts an anonymous online relationship with a boy from her school. Sam is awkward, shy and your stereotypical 2000s movie ‘loser’ – the guy is the school’s most popular football player. It also stars incredible Jennifer Coolidge, making it the perfect movie.

Mean Girls

Mean Girls, Paramount Pictures, 2004

Last, but not least, the iconic Mean Girls. If you haven’t seen this movie, first of all, WHAT, second of all – you need to! New girl Cady (Lindsay Lohan, again) learns about high school hierarchy in the most brutal way. Seeking revenge on the so-called Mean Girls, Cady’s plan falls into action.

There are so many more iconic chick flicks from the 2000s – maybe we’ll have to do a part two soon! If you’re feeling nostalgic now, invite your friends over, indulge in some snacks and have an ultimate 2000s chick flick binge session.
